Learn The Spiritual Gifts In Scripture
There are two primary passages listing the gifts:
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith if service, in our serving the one who teaches, in his teaching the one who exhorts, in his exhortation the one who contributes, in generosity the one who leads, with zeal the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11
Unless you have familiarity with the spiritual gifts, youll never know what gifts you might have. As you read the passages, consider which gifts you might have.
What Are My Spiritual Gifts
Whether we are gifted in these areas or not, we are responsible to meet these needs as God directs us.
Those with spiritual gifts in these areas will typically be called to lead the rest of us in these ministries and will model them with great effectiveness. Those I have known who possess the gift of evangelism, for example, encourage me to share my faith when they demonstrate their gift in action. Those with the gift of serving will take the initiative to help in this area, and will show the rest of us how to serve with joy.
The spiritual gifts, then, do not confine our service only to the areas where we are gifted. Rather, they point the way to ministries where we will lead and serve with our greatest passion and joy.
The following assessment is based on the belief that our passions and opportunities indicate the spiritual gifts God has imparted to us. Our passions indicate those areas of service which correspond with our desires, abilities, and interests we may or may not have used these passions in ministry to this point in our lives. Our opportunities show us areas where God may have opened doors of service to us, and may indicate areas of spiritual giftedness.
Things To Keep In Mind Before Taking A Spiritual Gifts Test:
Kathy Howard goes on in her article:
1. Spiritual gifts test can encourage us to put our purposes in place of Gods purposes.
Since spiritual gifts tests tend to reveal our own strengths and talents, we may use the assessment to find ways to serve that can be undertaken in our own power. We may hesitate to step out in ways that require the Spirits power, thus missing out on Gods greater purpose. Serving in our own strength brings us credit. Serving in Gods strength brings Him glory and honor.
2. Spiritual gifts tests can limit the Holy Spirit.
Even when the test does reveal a true spiritual gift, we may find ourselves only serving in ways that use that specific gift. We may forget that as a believer we have the entire person and power of the Holy Spirit residing within us. Yet we may hear Gods call but reject it because thats not in our area of gifting. With the Holy Spirit, God can do anything through our life He chooses to do.
3. Spiritual gifts tests can become an excuse.
Its a big temptation to follow something concrete and human like a test rather than depending on the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit. If we arent careful, believers can easily fall into the trap of making spiritual gifts all about us instead of all about the Giver. We ask, What can I do for God? How can I use my gifts and talents? When instead, we should be asking, How does God want to use the gifts He gave me?

How Many Gifts Are There What Are They
According to 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 28-29 Romans 12:3-8 Ephesians 4:11 and 1 Corinthians 7:7, there are at least 22 spiritual gifts. They are as follows: Apostles Prophets Pastor-Teachers Evangelists Prophecy Teaching Wisdom Knowledge Faith Miraculous Powers Healing Distinguishing between Spirits Speaking in Tongues Interpretation of Tongues Helps Service Administration Encouragement Giving Leadership Mercy and Celibacy.
Be Involved In The Body Of Christ
This encouragement might be more important than the others. Hermits and pew potatoes never learn their spiritual gifts. If you arent in fellowship, even if you suspect what your gift is, you cant use it for Gods glory and the saints edification.
Involvement in the body of Christ is when:
- Youll be asked to do certain things.
- Youll feel inclined to minister and serve in certain ways.
- Youll start saying to yourself, I feel like I should

Take A Spiritual Gift Inventory
There are lots of spiritual gift tests or inventories from which you may choose. Here is one, Gifted 2 Serve by BuildingChruch.com, I have used for adults. I especially like its explanations of the gifts.
Remember that these spiritual gift tests or inventories are only starting points. The results you get are not the final word. It is simply a place to begin your investigation. You have to try different things and use your gifts to really know what they are.
You Have To Trust That Giftedness Will Show
It’s often other people who notice giftedness. In a class full of children struggling with maths, there’s often one or two who just get it. They themselves may not realise they’re gifted, but the rest of the class can be painfully aware of the difference!
Soldiers who need leadership naturally recognise a gifted leader. Students revising for an exam, easily spot the one student who not only understands the subject, but has a gift of teaching and can explain it to them so they understand.
Others will see your giftedness, and given enough time, youll also probably come to see that area of service as the place where you fit best and feel most at home.

What Is My Spiritual Gift
The Bible discusses many spiritual gifts and abilities given to Christ-followers through the Holy Spirit. When we read the Bible and pray, we discover a beautiful blueprint of spiritual gifts. In order to answer the question, what is my spiritual gift, it helps to start with an explanation of each gift.
But before we discuss the seven spiritual gifts and move toward identifying, what is my spiritual gift, we need to discuss love.
Love is the gift everyone has available to share with others. Without love, the rest of the spiritual gifts will not matter. Jesus is most interested in our desire to fulfill HIs greatest call on our lives, to love God, and to love others as we love ourselves.
Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence. This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: Love others as well as you love yourself. These two commands are pegs everything in Gods Law and the Prophets hangs from them. Matthew 22:37-40 MSG
Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are many ways in which God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work in and through all of us who are his. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 LB
Have Your Community Affirm Them:
Ask the people in your faith community, whether a small group or other community, if they also recognize these gifts in you. These people should know you better than most other people within the church. Take time and ask them to affirm your gifts. This is a great step for everyone in your group to take. If they cant figure out your gifts, take some time to pray as a group and have the Holy Spirit help you identify gifts. To pay back your group, you can identify their gifts for them as well.

Pray And Ask God To Reveal Your Spiritual Gifts
Now more than ever, we should exercise our privilege of talking to our heavenly Father. We need to do this on behalf of ourselves and others. It is in this place of prayer that God often communicates how He wants to use us in the world. This is because God is the creator of all things, including you and I. We are reminded of this truth in Psalms 139: For you created my inmost being you knit me together in my mothers womb.
God knows us better than anyone. We were His idea created for His intended purpose. Through our relationship with Him, he gives us much-needed direction for our lives.
If we are uncertain of our spiritual gifts we need only ask God to reveal them to us. He will not withhold this information because He has distributed spiritual gifts to every person for the edification of the global church. When we know what our gifts are and how God wants us to use them, it benefits the entire body of Christ.
As we are petitioning God on behalf of our world we have a unique opportunity to ask God how He wants to use us as His hands and feet in the earth. He may reveal to us what our gifts are immediately, we may come to understand them over time, or after a season of trial and error. No matter how God chooses to shed light on our individual spiritual gifts we can have confidence in knowing that God will show us in due time.
Questions To Help You Identify Your Spiritual Gifts
1. As I study how gifts operate in the Bible, do any resonate in my soul?
2. What do I enjoy doing?
3. What is the holy spirit telling me?
4. What ministry in my life is God blessing?
5. What gifts do others see operating in me?
As we are engaging in Christian service in obedience, others may see a gift in us long before we ourselves are aware of it. Occasionally, others recognize that we don’t possess a gift we think we have.

Do Spiritual Gifts Tests Line Up With Scripture
Kathy Howard talks about a popular way that believers attempt to discover their spiritual gifts in her article, “Why You Need to Beware of Spiritual Gifts Tests.”
A spiritual gifts test is a manmade tool meant to help believers discern their spiritual gifts. The believer answers a series of questions designed to discover his or her specific gifts. When kept in the proper perspective, the test can be a helpful tool, but we must remember it is limited. How can a human tool effectively measure the infinite workings of the Spirit of Christ?
At their best, spiritual gifts tests may identify spiritual gifts and natural talents. But at their worst, since they cannot distinguish between them, the tests could actually encourage believers to serve according to our natural talents rather than relying on the power and equipping of the Holy Spirit.
So, while I think spiritual gifts tests can be useful, we must remember their limitations and proceed with caution. The following three cautions can help us properly use this tool:
Consider Your Opportunities To Act Boldly
All throughout the Bible, we see the apostles taking bold risks for Jesus Christ in the midst of a crisis. In Acts chapter 2, Peter used the gift of exhortation to address a crowd on the day of Pentecost and three thousand people were saved. In Acts chapter 3 Peter and John exercised the gift of healing by healing a lame beggar. In Acts 3:7 Peter said, Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. In Acts chapter 7, Stephen stood full of faith before the Sanhedrin and delivered a speech that would lead to his death by stoning. His gift of faith never wavered even in the face of losing his life. In Acts chapter 18 we see the spiritual gift of hospitality in Priscilla and Aquila. We could go on recounting the examples of spiritual gifts on display by men and women in the Bible. These accounts are examples for us.
They are powerful demonstrations of individuals willing to act boldly in difficult times for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Given our present circumstances, what bold actions are you motivated to take? You may have a desire to pray for others privately and publicly. You may sense an urgency to raise money for a particular cause. You may even feel the leading of the Holy Spirit to start an online Bible study. Whatever the Holy Spirit is prompting you to do may be an indication of what your spiritual gift is and how God wants you to use it.

What Is My Spiritual Gift The 7 Spiritual Gifts
1. Spiritual Gift of Prophesy or Perceiving
The spiritual gift of prophecy is speaking on behalf of God. There are many prophets in the Bible who spoke prophetically. I personally encountered a person in my church who had the spiritual gift of prophecy. He would pray quietly and at times speak a message he felt the Holy Spirit was directing him to share. This is a precious gift from God that is to be used gently and carefully.
2. Spiritual Gift of Service
The spiritual gift of service is coming alongside others to make an impact on humanity and the kingdom of God. It seems everyone should be called to service which is true, but the spiritual gift of service is demonstrated by an eager willingness to always serve. I have met many people with the spiritual gift of service and it is easy to see when someone performs service for the benefit of others. Working beside others and demonstrating the spiritual gift of service, strengthens our faith, our relationships, and changes lives.
3. Spiritual Gift of Teaching
The spiritual gift of teaching is the desire to speak and write to lead others to Christ or help Christians grow in their faith. There are many great teachers but people with the spiritual gift of teaching have a deeper purpose to touch hearts, minds, and souls. The spiritual gift of teaching equips others to live a transformed life in Christ. Teachers help others when they feel discouraged, drained, or disillusioned in their faith and/or life.
5. Spiritual Gift of Giving
Discovering Your Spiritual Gift
In light of the Holy Spirits work in giving us spiritual gifts, it is important for every Christian to discover his or her spiritual gift, demonstrate it in ministry, and develop it to its fullest potential. Doing so will not only strengthen a Christians personal relationship with God but will be an encouragement to the body of Christ as well.
There are several ways Christians can discover their spiritual giftedness.
Once you have identified your spiritual gift, you should begin using it in ministry.
Many churches experience a shortage of workers because church members do not use their gifts in ministry. By simply calling the church office, most Christians can quickly learn of several ministry opportunities available for utilizing their gift.
Your involvement in ministry will motivate you to develop your giftedness further. Every Christian needs to continually learn more about his or her spiritual gift and develop gift-related ministry skills to increase his or her effectiveness. Every follower of Jesus should be focused on doing effective ministry. An important step in doing that is identifying and operating in your spiritual gift.

You Have Visionsand They Often Come True
This could be a premonition, a feeling you get when speaking to someone, or just a random image that pops into your mind at any given moment. For example, lets say youre pulling out of the driveway and all of a sudden you feel uncomfortable as an image of an accident pops into your head. It might be a good idea to use a different route than normal or wait until you feel safe to take that drive to work. Better safe than sorry since premonitions can be a form of communication intended to protect you and keep you safe from harm. Notice whether you have any emotional attachment to your visions as well. This is an easy way to see if there is more to the thought than meets the eye.
