The First Spiritual Gift: Wisdom
Wisdom is one of those traits you just can’t fake, and without it, you can quickly end up in a world of hurt. Of course, the need for wisdom gets magnified by your position and responsibilities in life. Maybe that’s why out of all the gifts God could have endowed him with, King Solomon asked for wisdom . And tradition tells us he became renowned for this characteristic above all others. Of course, wisdom didn’t live and die with Solomon.
So, what does this term imply? Think of it as the “utterance of wisdom” or the “word of wisdom” . Why? Because wisdom requires both the will and the intellect, permitting believers to see things from God’s perspective. According to Catholic Answers, “Wisdom is both the knowledge of and judgment about ‘divine things’ and the ability to judge and direct human affairs according to divine truth.”
What are some obvious signs that believers have the gift of wisdom? According to Christianity, Paul describes signs of wisdom as doing things pleasing to God, leading a worthwhile life, and increasing in knowledge of the Lord. In other words, it’s not about being a know-it-all or winning the “Religious” topics column of a Jeopardy tournament. Instead, it’s about recognizing godly principles and then putting them into practice through sound decision-making, per St. Joseph’s Modesto.
What Is The Difference Between Spiritual Gifts And Gifts Of The Spirit
The spiritual gifts of the Spirit are given to every believer for the purpose of ministerial assignments, but they are not necessarily a means of judging the depth of a persons spiritual life. Christians may receive different spiritual gifts however, we should each be known by the same fruit of the Spirit.
The Fourth Spiritual Gift: Fortitude
When you hear the word “fortitude,” what comes to mind? Perhaps something like bravery or courage? Or maybe you think about something like grit? While these are all good answers, Thomas Aquinas argued that fortitude or courage comes paired with the quality of endurance .
Best exemplified in the final hours of Jesus of Nazareth’s life, he faced excruciating punishments yet embraced the Cross, according to The Dialog. “Jesus was sustained by the gift of fortitude, God-given endurance to see the journey through to its glorious end.”
Interestingly, Catholicism also recognizes the virtue of fortitude per Catholic Straight Answers. So, what’s the contrast between the spiritual gift of fortitude and fortitude as a virtue? Unlike the natural virtue of fortitude that anybody can strengthen, the supernatural version perfects the concept. It provides a massive dose of energy, turning trepidation and confusion into strong, indefatigable resolve.

What Do The Seven Gifts Of The Holy Spirit Mean For The Believer
Clearly, the passage is, in its most immediate reading, describing the Holy Spirits gifts upon the coming Messiah, Our Lord Jesus Christ. There is no promise in this passage about such gifts being bestowed upon believers at their baptism, or their confirmation of faith. John Calvin was emphatic in his that the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit, derived from this passage, are ill-conceived. Calvins language is uncompromising as he wrote:
The Prophet does not here enumerate all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as some have thought. Out of this passage, the Papists have foolishly and ignorantly drawn their sevenfold grace, and some of the ancients fell into a similar blunder. He enumerates only six kinds, but they have added a seventh out of their own head. But as one error commonly follows another, they have chosen to limit the gifts of the Spirit to the number seven, although in other parts of Scripture he receives numerous and lofty commendations drawn from the variety of the effects which he produces. Besides, it is very evident that it is through the kindness of Christ that we are partakers of other blessings than those that are here enumerated, of meekness, chastity, sobriety, truth, and holiness for these proceed from none else than from Christ. He does not mention, therefore, all the gifts which were bestowed on Christ, for that was unnecessary but only shows briefly that Christ came not empty-handed, but well supplied with all gifts, that he might enrich us with them.
The Gift Of Pastor/shepherd
The spiritual gift of pastor or pastor/shepherd is one that carries many different responsibilities. This gift is closely related to the spiritual gifts of leadership and teaching. The Greek word for pastor is poimen and simply means shepherd or overseer.
In the Biblical context, shepherds had several different responsibilities to their sheep and ultimately, to the owner of the sheep. They kept a lookout for predators and protected the sheep from attackers. They cared for wounded and sick sheep, nursing them back to health. They rescued them if they became lost or trapped. They spent enormous amounts of time with them guiding them to he places of nourishment and rest. The result was a trust and relationship that kept the sheep following the shepherd. The sheep were attuned to the shepherds voice to the point that even if they were temporarily mixed with another herd, at the call of the shepherd they would separate and follow him.
Pastors are called shepherds because their calling and gifting are much like those who care for sheep. They are called and gifted to care for the spiritual well-being of a local body of Gods people. Pastors are first and foremost servants. They are servants of God and servants of His bride, the church. They are given a mixture of abilities by grace that allows them to serve the needs of an entire community.

Have The Gifts Of The Spirit Ceased
In the video below, Raymond Goodlett discusses whether the Gifts of the Spirit have ceased to be present or necessary in the modern age. Did all or some of the gifts cease to be given as the world has changed from the time of Jesus?
I get that question a lot, in terms of, “have these sensational gifts continued today, or did they pass away during the first century with the apostles?” And honestly, I still have some questions about some of those. But if I just go from First Corinthians chapter 13, where I currently lean, is that we should make room in our understanding of these things to say that they still continue, however that looks practically in how it’s displayed through the life of believers. From the text, at least where I am today, this is how it sounds to me. First Corinthians 13. I think the key text begins in verse eight there of chapter 13. “Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away. As for tongues, they will cease. As for knowledge, it will pass away.”
And I think that’s where the entire church can be agreed. There is an expiration date for these gifts. Tongues, prophecy. The only question then is when will they expire. In verse nine, it says, “We know in part, we prophesy in part.” Verse 10, “But when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.” So we can be safe in saying there is this event when the perfect comes, we’re led to believe that that is when these gifts will expire.
How Do I Know I Have A Spiritual Gift
You have a strong intuition.
Some people hear voices. Others feel the thought pop up in their mind, and others feel a response in their heart. It doesnt matter how the messages are coming to you what matters is that youre conscious of them. Start to pay attention to when things feel good and when they feel awful.

What Is My Spiritual Gift
The Bible discusses many spiritual gifts and abilities given to Christ-followers through the Holy Spirit. When we read the Bible and pray, we discover a beautiful blueprint of spiritual gifts. In order to answer the question, what is my spiritual gift, it helps to start with an explanation of each gift.
But before we discuss the seven spiritual gifts and move toward identifying, what is my spiritual gift, we need to discuss love.
Love is the gift everyone has available to share with others. Without love, the rest of the spiritual gifts will not matter. Jesus is most interested in our desire to fulfill HIs greatest call on our lives, to love God, and to love others as we love ourselves.
Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence. This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: Love others as well as you love yourself. These two commands are pegs everything in Gods Law and the Prophets hangs from them. Matthew 22:37-40 MSG
Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are many ways in which God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work in and through all of us who are his. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 LB
What Are The Seven Gifts Of The Holy Spirit
The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit . . . are: wisdom understanding counsel fortitude knowledge piety fear of the Lord, says the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church.
The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit have traditionally been used by believers in Roman Catholic devotion and practice. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirits divinely-bestowed virtues and graces were identified in Isaiah 11:1-2. In that Messianic prophecy of Isaiah, the prophet describes seven manifestations of the Holy Spirit’s presence and anointing on the Messiah: There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord .
It is essential to recognize that the phrase is a description of a devotional interpretation of the passage, rather than a listing of specific gifts of the Holy Spirit. Theses are revealed in four New Testament passages: Romans 12:3-8 1 Corinthians 12-14 Ephesians 4:7-13 and 1 Peter 4:10-11.

What Are The 7 Spiritual Gifts
Although a life with Christ offers more gifts than we can imagine, lets focus on what are the seven spiritual gifts discussed in the book of Romans also referred to as motivational gifts.
We have gifts that differ according to the grace that was given to usif prophecy, in proportion to our faith if service, in our serving or the one who teaches, in his teaching or the one who exhorts, in his exhortation the one who gives, in generosity the one who leads, with diligence the one who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Romans 12:6-8 TLV
The Seven Gifts Of The Holy Spirit Explained
Christianity has many mysteries, from the Nativity to the Cross, Divine Providence to the Holy Trinity . Some events prove hard to comprehend, such as Pentecost, when the first believers of Christ broke into a thunderous torrent of foreign languages. In the process, the Gospels say they brought the message of Jesus to awestruck, multilingual passersby, per PBS. At the heart of the Pentecostal mystery? Another hard to fathom concept … how the Holy Spirit fits into the mix and what it does.
A member of the Holy Trinity , the Holy Spirit works in various ways in people’s lives in the Christian tradition. It manifests physically in the New Testament as a dove descending from Heaven. Known as the Ruach Ha-Kodesh in Hebrew , the Holy Spirit proves a compelling and ambiguous force in the Brit Chadashah or New Testament . Pope John Paul II would remind later believers that the Latin translation of the term ruach was spiritus, which means “breath.”
Other names for the Holy Spirit include the Ruach HaEmet and the Ruach Ha-Chokhmah . It’s no coincidence that these titles allude to the seven gifts mentioned in Isaiah, per St. Joseph’s Modesto. After all, Christians believe the gifts manifest in believers through the power of the Holy Ghost. From wisdom to understanding, counsel to fortitude, here’s a rundown of this mystery.

The Fifth Spiritual Gift: Knowledge
We’ve already covered “wisdom,” but where does “knowledge” fit into the mix? According to Shepherds of the Lost, knowledge permits the body of believers to recognize and gather necessary information. Then, it enables them to analyze and clarify said information in terms of their faith. This especially relates to knowledge with a direct impact on the Church.
What does this revelation look like? Discussed in the Gospels, the Book of Acts, and Paul’s letters to the Corinthians, the supernatural bestowing of knowledge comes in many forms . These forms may include a word, dream, or other communication, and they can convict an individual or a whole group of the faithful. Yet, it’s all for naught without the ability to discern God’s voice in contrast to human nature. So, the gift of knowledge comes accompanied by this ability, too.
Some serious consequences related to the gift of knowledge have occurred over the centuries. Misuse of the gift has even resulted in fracturing of the Christian faith. After all, one man’s word of knowledge is another man’s heresy, especially in the “case of secrets revealed.” And if the person or group to whom the knowledge has been disclosed swells with pride or becomes haughty over the whole thing, it can open a Pandora’s Box, spelling trouble for all involved. Just think first-century Gnostics, 20th century Branch Davidians, or even the outlandish premise of Dan Brown’s “Da Vinci Code” books .
What Is My Spiritual Gift The 7 Spiritual Gifts
1. Spiritual Gift of Prophesy or Perceiving
The spiritual gift of prophecy is speaking on behalf of God. There are many prophets in the Bible who spoke prophetically. I personally encountered a person in my church who had the spiritual gift of prophecy. He would pray quietly and at times speak a message he felt the Holy Spirit was directing him to share. This is a precious gift from God that is to be used gently and carefully.
2. Spiritual Gift of Service
The spiritual gift of service is coming alongside others to make an impact on humanity and the kingdom of God. It seems everyone should be called to service which is true, but the spiritual gift of service is demonstrated by an eager willingness to always serve. I have met many people with the spiritual gift of service and it is easy to see when someone performs service for the benefit of others. Working beside others and demonstrating the spiritual gift of service, strengthens our faith, our relationships, and changes lives.
3. Spiritual Gift of Teaching
The spiritual gift of teaching is the desire to speak and write to lead others to Christ or help Christians grow in their faith. There are many great teachers but people with the spiritual gift of teaching have a deeper purpose to touch hearts, minds, and souls. The spiritual gift of teaching equips others to live a transformed life in Christ. Teachers help others when they feel discouraged, drained, or disillusioned in their faith and/or life.

The Romans 12 Gifts: Useful For Person
The seven motivational gifts found in Romans 12 perceiving, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, ruling, and mercywhen viewed as a profile provide a base for person-job fit suitable for use with all people regardless of faith tradition. This paper argues that people have some combination of all gifts that is in contrast to the popular literatures perspective of people having one or two gifts. When people are placed in jobs that fit their motivational gift profile people seem to be self-motivated to perform the requisite tasks. This paper recommends that future research examine gift profiles in specific jobs to see if there is a common profile for those people that are satisfied and motivated.
Stitinger helps us understand the profiles of the Romans 12 gifts in his use of the idea of the need for people to seek to understand their giftedness rather than their gift.3
The Second Spiritual Gift: Understanding
When it comes to spiritual gifts, understanding is another loaded term. Some people immediately think of it in relation to knowledge, while others see it as empathy towards the needs and feelings of others. But what does the second gift of the Holy Spirit, understanding, mean in theological terms? It allows believers to get at the heart of revealed truths.
How does it differ from wisdom? Wisdom represents a thirst for the things of God, and it involves a healthy dose of contemplation. But understanding takes this longing for more of God to the next level. According to St. Joseph Catholic Church, the spiritual gift of understanding establishes the faith believers receive through the Sacraments in the Catholic tradition. “This great gift of understanding is this seeing of the heart and soul.”
Along with the ability to perceive stuff in new ways, the gift of understanding also lets believers judge matters accurately, per Openlight Media. That said, this understanding isn’t the result of deep study or a particular educational path. Instead, the Holy Spirit fuels this unquenchable desire to learn about God and Jesus through the Bible, meditation, and prayer.
