Gift Of Wisdom Bible Verses

What Does the Bible Say About Spiritual Gifts

The gift of wisdom is one of the spiritual gifts given to some Christians.

Here are a couple of Bible verses about the gift of wisdom:

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit. .

For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. .

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. .

I hope these Bible verses about wisdom have encouraged you. If youre looking for wisdom, seek the Lord and go to the Bible where all wisdom is revealed to us.

The Importance Ofknowing Your Spiritual Gift

For various reasons, many have played down the importance of knowing your spiritual gift. Lets begin our study of spiritual gifts by suggesting several reasons why it is imperative for every Christian to know his gift.

1. The prominence of spiritual gifts in Scripture. One of the ways we can measure the importance of a principle or a doctrine is to determine the amount of space devoted to it in the Bible. Subjects or doctrines which are merely implied are surely of less significance than those clearly stated. Matters mentioned infrequently should not be regarded as crucial as those frequently dealt with. Using this standard of measurement, the subject of spiritual gifts is a vital one, for we find gifts addressed specifically in four major portions of Scripture: 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 Romans chapter 12 Ephesians chapter 4 and 1 Peter chapter 4. In addition to these central passages, spiritual gifts are mentioned elsewhere in the Bible. Spiritual gifts must be important to the Spirit of God Who inspired the writing of the Word of God and thus they should be important to us.

3. Spiritual gifts are a matter of individual stewardship. When Peter spoke of spiritual gifts in his first epistle, he considered them a matter of personal stewardship:

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God .

Many Gifts Many Members One Body

Each and every church member is clearly a part of the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles , second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. I pray you not only seek and discover your gifts but that you utilize them to the strengthening of the Body of Christ, for which you are a part. If you are not, then today is the time to become part of Christs church because members of this body will live on into eternity.

The Gift Of Administration

The Greek word for the spiritual gift of administration is kubernesis. This is a unique term that refers to a shipmaster or captain. The literal meaning is to steer, or to rule or govern. It carries the idea of someone who guides and directs a group of people toward a goal or destination. We see variations of this word in verses like Acts 27:11, and Revelation 18:17.

With this gift the Holy Spirit enables certain Christians to organize, direct, and implement plans to lead others in the various ministries of the Church. This gift is closely related to the gift of leadership, but is more goal or task oriented and is also more concerned with details and organization. See also I Corinthians 12:28, Titus 1:4-5.

What Are Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

What Does the Bible Say About Spiritual Gifts?

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are unique skills and abilities given by the Holy Spirit to faithful followers of Christ to serve God for the common benefit of his people, the church. A listing of spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 mentions wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Comparable gifts are discussed in Ephesians 4:7-13, Isaiah 11:2-3, and Romans 12:3-8.

The gifts of the Spirit are simply God empowering faithful Christians to do what He has called us to do. 2 Peter 1:3 says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” The gifts of the Holy Spirit are part of “everything we need” to accomplish His plans for our lives.

Paul instructed that “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us… let use in proportion to faith,Romans 12:6.

What Does The Bible Say About Different Gifts

2 Corinthians 9:6-8Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Similarly, what does the Bible say about receiving gifts from others? The Bible states that God loves a cheerful giver and that Jesus taught it is better to give then receive . Being able to receive a gift with gratitude is a sign of a healthy, humble spirit, which is also pleasing to God.

Knowledge And Wisdom Bible Verses

Knowledge and wisdom are not synonymous. Knowledge is having information whereas wisdom is applying that information to life. Knowledge is required to exercise wisdom, but wisdom is not required to attain knowledge.

Here are a couple of Bible verses about knowledge and wisdom:

For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

The Word Of Wisdom The 9 Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

This next gift at times will work in conjunction with the word of knowledge. Sometimes all you need is a direct word of knowledge from the Holy Spirit and it will completely solve the problem or dilemma you are dealing with.

However, there will be other times that a word of knowledge will not be quite enough to solve the problem. This is where you will now need a word of wisdom. A word of wisdom will give you the ability to be able to properly apply the knowledge that you may already have on a particular situation.

In our article, Seeking After the Knowledge of God, we explain to you the difference between knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. For instance, if someone gives you a car manual that will show you how to rebuild a car engine, that manual will give you all of the actual knowledge you will need to learn how to do it. But all of that knowledge will not do you any good unless you first understand what you are reading.

If you can understand what you are reading, then the next and final step will be to have the actual wisdom to be able to actually rebuild a car engine out in your garage once you try and do it. All of that knowledge from the car manual, and all of that understanding of that knowledge will do you no good in real life if you do not have the wisdom to be able to apply that knowledge to a real life working situation.

Here are some specific examples where we could receive words of wisdom direct from the Holy Spirit:

Praying For Wisdom Bible Verses

“What does the bible say about Spiritual Gifts”

If you feel youre lacking in wisdom, dont fret. God is able to give us wisdom when we ask for it. Simply praying for wisdom will help you.

Here are a couple of Bible verses about praying for wisdom:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. .

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit. .

God Gives Us Special Gifts And Talents So We Can Live Fully For Him

17. God gives us special gifts and talents so we can live fully for Him?

God bestows upon all members of His church in every age spiritual gifts which each member is to employ in loving ministry for the common good of the church and of humanity. Given by the agency of the Holy Spirit, who apportions to each member as He wills, the gifts provide all abilities and ministries needed by the church to fulfill its divinely ordained functions. According to the Scriptures, these gifts include such ministries as faith, healing, prophecy, proclamation, teaching, administration, reconciliation, compassion, and self-sacrificing service and charity for the help and encouragement of people. Some members are called of God and endowed by the Spirit for functions recognized by the church in pastoral, evangelistic, apostolic, and teaching ministries particularly needed to equip the members for service, to build up the church to spiritual maturity, and to foster unity of the faith and knowledge of God. When members employ these spiritual gifts as faithful stewards of God’s varied grace, the church is protected from the destructive influence of false doctrine, grows with a growth that is from God, and is built up in faith and love.

The Gift Of Pastor/shepherd

The spiritual gift of pastor or pastor/shepherd is one that carries many different responsibilities. This gift is closely related to the spiritual gifts of leadership and teaching. The Greek word for pastor is poimen and simply means shepherd or overseer.

In the Biblical context, shepherds had several different responsibilities to their sheep and ultimately, to the owner of the sheep. They kept a lookout for predators and protected the sheep from attackers. They cared for wounded and sick sheep, nursing them back to health. They rescued them if they became lost or trapped. They spent enormous amounts of time with them guiding them to he places of nourishment and rest. The result was a trust and relationship that kept the sheep following the shepherd. The sheep were attuned to the shepherds voice to the point that even if they were temporarily mixed with another herd, at the call of the shepherd they would separate and follow him.

Pastors are called shepherds because their calling and gifting are much like those who care for sheep. They are called and gifted to care for the spiritual well-being of a local body of Gods people. Pastors are first and foremost servants. They are servants of God and servants of His bride, the church. They are given a mixture of abilities by grace that allows them to serve the needs of an entire community.

Who Receives This Spiritual Gift

It is expressed in the Bible that not all believers will receive this gift: God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 1 Corinthians 12:28-30. We can see here that only some will receive the gift to speak in tongues, just as only some are called to be apostles, etc.

As with all gifts of the Spirit, the speaking of tongues is not necessarily a sign of spiritual maturity. Many of the Corinthians spoke in tongues but Paul states that they were babes in Christ. However, when used in an orderly and appropriate manner, it can be used to build up the individual and other members of the body of Christ.

Given In Varying Measure

What Does the Bible Say About Spiritual Gifts

The second thing I want to point out from this text is that both the gifts we have and the faith to exercise them are given to us by God in varying measure. The reason Paul teaches this truth is to help us think soberly about ourselves and not too highly. The gifted are always in danger of pride it was a terrible problem at Corinth . So Paul uncovers a profound truth that is intended to blow away all pride all self-reliance or boasting. He says in verse 6 that we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us. In other words, any distinction that sets you off from others in ability is owing to grace that is, it is freely given and not earned or deserved. So you cant boast in it.

But someone might say, Okay, I cant boast in what gift I have, but I can boast in the zeal with which I use it. Thats like the person who says, Well, I cant boast that I was born in America, but I can boast that I used my freedom to be productive and get rich. Both of those statements are wrong. Moses said to Israel in Deuteronomy 8:17,

Beware lest you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth. You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.

And in a similar way, Paul says here in Romans 12:3,

Dont think of yourself more highly than you ought to think but think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith which God has assigned to him.

The Gift Of Discernment

The spiritual gift of discernment is also known as the gift of discernment of spirits or distinguishing between spirits. The Greek word for the gift of discernment is diakrisis. The word describes being able to distinguish, discern, judge or appraise a person, statement, situation, or environment. In the New Testament it describes the ability to distinguish between spirits as in 1 Corinthians 12:10, and to discern good and evil as in Hebrews 5:14.

The Holy Spirit gives the gift of discernment to enable certain Christians to clearly recognize and distinguish between the influence of God, Satan, the world, and the flesh in a given situation. The church needs those with this gift to warn believers in times of danger or keep them from being led astray by false teaching. See also I Corinthians 12:10, Acts 5:3-6 16:16-18 1 John 4:1.

Deuteronomy 1: 11 Kjv

Other Gifts Of The Spirit

Romans 12:7-8 also speaks of additional gifts if it is serving, then serve if it is teaching, then teach if it is to encourage, then give encouragement if it is giving, then give generously if it is to lead, do it diligently if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. This shows that some are gifted at teaching, some at showing mercy, some in giving to the work of the Lord, and some who show an unusual amount of forgiveness .

Ephesians 4:11 reveals yet more gifts as Paul indicates there are, apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers. Again teachers are mentioned, evangelists are those who are unusually gifted at sharing the gospel with the lost, pastors and prophets . Apostles can no longer exist because by definition, they would be those church leaders who have been commissioned by the risen Christ and having been done so in His presence. Those who call themselves apostles have no such authority given by God and they are self-designated only, thusly disqualifying themselves as a true apostle.

Things To Keep In Mind Before Taking A Spiritual Gifts Test:

What Does the Bible Say about Spiritual Gifts?

Kathy Howard goes on in her article:

1. Spiritual gifts test can encourage us to put our purposes in place of Gods purposes.

Since spiritual gifts tests tend to reveal our own strengths and talents, we may use the assessment to find ways to serve that can be undertaken in our own power. We may hesitate to step out in ways that require the Spirits power, thus missing out on Gods greater purpose. Serving in our own strength brings us credit. Serving in Gods strength brings Him glory and honor.

2. Spiritual gifts tests can limit the Holy Spirit.

Even when the test does reveal a true spiritual gift, we may find ourselves only serving in ways that use that specific gift. We may forget that as a believer we have the entire person and power of the Holy Spirit residing within us. Yet we may hear Gods call but reject it because thats not in our area of gifting. With the Holy Spirit, God can do anything through our life He chooses to do.

3. Spiritual gifts tests can become an excuse.

Its a big temptation to follow something concrete and human like a test rather than depending on the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit. If we arent careful, believers can easily fall into the trap of making spiritual gifts all about us instead of all about the Giver. We ask, What can I do for God? How can I use my gifts and talents? When instead, we should be asking, How does God want to use the gifts He gave me?
