How To Edit And Disable Your Egift Card Order Site

Set up an E-Gift Card with Square
  • Go to Gift Cards in your Square Dashboard.

  • Select eGift Cards> Configure.

  • Click the blue site URL Manage Designs to upload your own designs and select which gift card designs are available for your customers to choose.

  • To disable your eGift Card Order Site, toggle Sell eGift Cards Online above your sites URL to Off.

    Customers Can Reload Their Gift Card And Check Their Balance

    Your customers can reload their eGift Card and check their eGift Card balance from the original eGift Card email by clicking on the View Your eGift Card button. The page will have information about the card balance, the ability to add funds to the gift card, transaction history, methods for redemption, and the original gifting message.

    To reload their eGift Card, customers will need to confirm their eGift Card number, PIN , and payment card information.

    Reload A Gift Card Or Check A Gift Card Balance Online

    You can check the balance of a gift card from the Square app:

  • From the Checkout screen, tap Library> Gift Cards.

  • Swipe or enter the gift card number.

  • The gift card balance should be shown at the top next to the gift card number.

  • You can leave the screen or load more value on this gift card.

  • You can add a link to your website so your customers can check their gift card balance or reload their gift card online. Create the link from your online Square Dashboard.

    Note: Tapping Clear Balance will clear any remaining balance and unlink the gift cards from customer receipts.

    If a customers gift card has a 4-digit PIN but the check balance feature does not work, they will be prompted to contact the Square seller to check their balance or load additional funds.

    From The Square Point Of Sale App

    If you are setup to sell Square eGift Cards through your Square Point of Sale app, then you can load and send eGift Cards to recipients while you’re in-store.

    To load and send an eGift Card in the Square Point of Sale app:

  • Create a new sale or open an existing ticket.

  • Tap Library> Gift Cards> Sell eGift Card.

  • Select your eGift Card design.

  • Select a preset load amount or enter a custom amount.

  • Enter the eGift Card recipient’s email address > tap Done.

  • Tap Return to Sale to complete the transaction.

  • Once the transaction is complete, the recipient will immediately be sent their eGift Card via email.

    To accept gift cards with the Square app:

  • Go to Checkout> add the items your customer wishes to purchase from your library or enter a custom amount.

  • Tap Charge> swipe the gift card through your magstripe reader or the front of Square Stand, take a photo of the gift card QR code or barcode with your devices camera, or scan the gift card barcode with a barcode scanner. Alternatively, if the customer has an eGift Card, tap Manual Gift Card Entry and enter the gift card information when your customer is ready to pay.

  • If scanning a gift card QR code, please ensure to enable your devices camera. You can also scan the QR code with a compatible barcode scanner. Redeeming gift card balances via QR code or a barcode scanner is only available on iOS devices at this time.

    If there are insufficient funds on the gift card, you can use Split Tender to complete the sale or cancel the payment and accept a different method of payment entirely.

    Note: After a sale, any remaining gift card balance will display on the receipt screen and on your customers receipt.

    Customers can also use your gift cards to place orders through Square Online. During checkout, your customers will have the option to enter the gift card code . If the amount on the gift card doesnt cover the total, your customer can pay the remainder with their credit or debit card.

    From The Online Square Dashboard

  • Sign in to the Sales section of your online Square Dashboard> Transactions.

  • Search for the eGift Card sale by:- Filtering the transaction search by item > enter eGift Card.

  • Searching the receipt number from the eGift Cards purchase. – Searching using the last 4 digits of the eGift Card.

  • Once youve located the transaction, select it and click the blue eGift Card number in the transaction details.

  • To view the receipts for each gift card transaction, click the receipt number under the Receipts column.

    Refund To An Egift Card

    Getting started with eGift Cards

    From Point of Sale, Square Retail, or Square Appointments apps on iOS devices:

  • Open the navigation menu and tap Transactions.

  • Enter the receipt number or the credit card number in the search bar to find the transaction.

  • Tap the transaction you want to refund and select Issue Refund.

  • Select the items or the amount you want to refund and tap Next.

  • Under Refund To, select Gift Card> Create eGift Card.

  • Enter the customers email address in the box. This will autofill if you have already added your customers email to their profile in your customer directory. On the customer-facing screen, your customer can edit the email address or enter in a new email, if needed, then tap Done.

  • Confirm the email address with your customer, then tap Done.

  • On the Refund Complete window, tap Done.

  • After issuing a refund to an eGift card from your point of sale, your customer will receive an email with their eGift card that they can use for store credit the next time they shop with you.

    Note: Refunding to an eGift Card is available on only iOS devices at this time.

    From Your Egift Card Order Site

    Your customers can order from your custom eGift Card order page, where they can choose an eGift Card design, amount, delivery date, as well as add a personal message and the recipients information. Your customer will also enter their payment information and receive an email confirmation of their order. If you have bulk eGift card ordering turned on, your customers can easily follow these same steps for multiple gift cards.

    Once you have configured eGift Cards on your account, you can share your unique eGift Card order page URL with your customers. To locate your order page, please visit the eGift Cards section in your online Square Dashboard and copy the URL that is below the Sell eGift Cards Online toggle switch.

    Make sure you link to your eGift Card order page from your business website and social media pages. See more ways to promote your eGift Cards to your customers.

    If your customer makes a bulk eGift card purchase, they can send all the eGift cards to one email address or one eGift card to multiple emails. If they send all the eGift cards to the same email address, the recipient will receive separate emails for each gift card to avoid bounced emails.If your customer used a promo code, it will apply to all eGift cards.

    Note: The maximum bulk purchase order is 100 eGift cards per transaction. eGift cards purchased in bulk must all have the same monetary amount.

    How Much Do Egift Cards Cost

    Fees for eGift Cards only apply when the customer is paying to load the gift card with a credit or debit card. When you sell an eGift Card from the Point of Sale appSquares standard card processing fees apply. If a customer wants to pay for an eGift Card with cash then no fees will apply to that sale.

    When you sell an eGift Card from your online order page the Squares Online Store per transaction fee is applied to the total amount of the sale.

    When the recipient redeems the eGift Card at your business no processing fee is applied to the transaction.

    See If A Competitor Will Honor The Gift Card

    Mind you, theres no obligation on the part of the competing restaurant to honor the gift card. And they may not be willing to. However, its worth a shot. Sometimes restaurants will accept gift cards from closed establishments, or at least give you a discount in exchange for them. Its a show of good will, and it may just win them a repeat customer .

    It never hurts to reach out to see if the restaurateur or corporate headquarters has a plan in place for accommodating gift cards, or if they are willing to give you a refund. Just remember, it’s a tough time for the business. And in some cases, particularly when a business closes due to financial issues, there may be no money available to refund your card. So, be polite and patient.

    And, if don’t get the answer you’d like, don’t immediately think that taking legal action is a good recourse. Although filing in small claims court may seem like a good option, its usually not worth the hassle, unless the gift card is for an extremely large amount.

    Customers can also order eGift Cards online through the Give and Get Local Directory. The Give and Get Local Directory is a listing of businesses who offer Square eGift Cards. It allows buyers to browse and purchase eGift Cards from local businesses in their area, including your own. If a customer decides to buy an eGift Card to your business through the Give and Get Local Directory, they will be directed to your custom eGift Card order site to complete their purchase. The Give and Get Local Directory is also featured and promoted by select partners to encourage more customers to support local businesses.

    To search for your business or others that offer eGift Cards in the Give and Get Local Directory:

  • On the Give and Get Local Directory, enter in an address or press Use current location.

  • Apply additional filters, such as business category, if needed.

  • Select the business you wish to order an eGift Card from and continue through the checkout process on that business eGift Card order site.

  • Note: Only businesses offering Square eGift Cards will appear in the search. Businesses that only offer physical gift cards in store will not be reflected.

    The image, business name and location that represent your business in the Give and Get Local directory are the eGift Card design and business name and location that you have associated with your Square account.

    Can My Egift Cards Be Redeemed At Other Businesses

    Your eGift Cards can only be redeemed at your business including all of your business locations. They cannot be redeemed on any online store platforms outside of your Square Online Store powered by Weebly. If you have another ecommerce platform, you will need to embed your eGift Card link to your online store. Find this on the Square Dashboard under eGift Cards.

    Set up and embed a gift card link on your website to allow your site visitors to purchase digital gift cards. Gift cards can boost sales, engage existing customers or bring in new customers. Its free to set up and sell gift cards online, though you still pay a credit card payment processing fee.

    Required:

  • Go to your GoDaddy product page.
  • Scroll to Websites + Marketing and select Manage next to the website you want to change.
  • Select Edit Website or Edit Site to open your website builder.
  • Add a section, look for Gift Card and select Add.
  • In the Gift Card menu, select Gift Card Settings.
  • In a separate tab or window, go to your Gift Up! account or Square account and sign in.
    • Gift Up!: Once youve created your gift card, go to Settings and select Get your checkout code/link. Then select Copy next to your link.
    • Square: Select Gift Cards in the left menu and follow the prompts. From your Square dashboard, check that Sell eGift Cards Online is toggled on. Copy your Digital Gift Card URL from the Square dashboard. If you have difficulty, please read Squares Help article and Squares FAQs.
  • Back in your Websites + Marketing site, paste the URL you copied into the Gift Card URL field.

    Check A Gift Card Balance Online

    You can create a link from your online Square Dashboard and add it to your website so your customers can check their gift card balance online.

    Once you create your link, customers who visit your site can check their balance by scanning their gift card QR code with their smartphone camera. They can also view their balance by entering their 16-digit gift card number and 4-digit PIN found on the back of their gift card.

    If a customer’s gift card does not have a 4-digit PIN printed on the back, they can select My gift card does not have a PIN to continue checking their balance.

    If a customer’s gift card has a 4-digit PIN but the check balance feature does not work, they will receive a message to contact the Square seller to check their balance.

    Can I Sell Egift Cards From My Point Of Sale

    You can set up and sell eGift Cards from the Square app on any device including from the Square Register and Square Terminal. To sell eGift Cards Online youll also need to sign in to your online Square Dashboard and enable eGift Cards from the Gift Cards tab.

    To set up and sell eGift Cards from your Square app:

  • Navigate to the Settings section of the app.
  • Tap Gift Cards and toggle on Sell eGift Cards in Store.
  • Tap Add Designs to select designs for your eGift Cards or to upload your own design. Once you have this enabled you will see how many active designs you have available for sale.
  • Enter minimum/maximum load amounts and enter a custom policy .
  • * In order to sell eGift Cards from the Square for Restaurants app follow the steps above in the Point of Sale app first. After youve enabled eGift Cards from the app open the Square for Restaurants app > tap Actions> tap Gift Cards> Sell Gift Cards.
