In November 2021, Gerard and Diane Drappi dropped their Xfinity cell phone service and moved over to Verizon.
The carrier was drawing in new customers with a rebate program that would give customers a $500 gift card for each phone line that was switched.
The couple said they went to a Verizon store in Toms River and made the move for two lines.
The sales representative informed us about the current promotion and said that we would qualify for two gift cards, Gerard Drappi said. He said that he would send me a link to my cell phone to apply for the rebates.
He said he received the link and when he got home, completed the requested information and received notification that it was approved. He tried the link a second time for the promotion linked to his wifes phone, but it said the request was already completed.
I thought that the one request was for both lines on one account, he said.
He was wrong.
A few weeks later, Drappi said, he received an email from Verizon saying the gift card was for his phone number, but there wasnt one for his wifes.
He called customer service on Dec. 20, he said.
The representative reviewed the account, which showed only one rebate was requested.
Drappi gave it time and called again on Feb. 18, he said.
