As the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations across the country slows, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWines office unveiled a new incentivefeaturing two unlikely grocery collaboratorsdesigned to get more shots in arms in the state.

On June 24, DeWines office announced that select Ohio locations of Cincinnati-based Kroger and Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle will offer $25 DoorDash gift cards from June 25-30 to those vaccinated at the grocery stores.;

DeWines office is engaged in a major push to vaccinate younger Ohioans, with outreach and vaccination clinics in progress at schools and through community organizations and pediatricians offices throughout the state. Currently, all those ages 12 and up are eligible to be vaccinated. The DoorDash promotion, its hoped, will encourage younger adults ages 18 to 26who the White House this week noted have lower-than-desired vaccination ratesto roll up their sleeves.;;

The governors office noted that while Ohios COVID-19 case numbers have been dropping, deaths from the disease are skewing younger. Over the winter, before mass vaccination campaigns began, more than half of COVID-19 deaths in the state were in those ages 80 and older. Now, those ages 40 to 79 make up 65% of deaths, according to the state.;;

People always advise treating gift cards like cash, but what does that mean? If you received a $20 bill in a greeting card, you would most likely take the cash out of the greeting card and put it directly into your wallet. Thats what you need to do with gift cards as well. Dont put the gift card back into the greeting card, stack it up with other presents, toss it on your desk or leave it out where somebody else can find it. Put the gift card into a safe place immediately. Even better, take a picture of the front and the back of the gift card so you have a record of gift card number just in case something happens later.

When giving someone a gift card, take a picture of the activation receipt for your own records and then give the original along with the gift card. Since you dont need to hide the purchase price from the recipient , theres no reason to keep the activation receipt from the person who will most likely need it the most. You could even add a note that reads, If you have any trouble with this gift card, please let me know.

If gift cards are your thing, youre probably a big fan of buying them at Giant Eagle so you can benefit from their Fuel Perks program.

Giant Eagles expansive gift card offerings have become a staple for most holidays including this weekends Fathers Day.

But if youre planning to get dad an Amazon gift card, you wont be finding any at Giant Eagle.

A WKYC viewer reached out Friday morning saying he went to a Giant Eagle store looking to purchase an Amazon gift card and was told the store chain no longer sells them.

This was news to us, so we did some digging and found information that dates back to early March.

Why are you stopping the sale of Amazon gift cards??? several months ago.

The store chain responded to that question with the following statement:

Unfortunately, we will no longer be able to sell Amazon gift cards in our stores after March 14, 2019. The Giant Eagle Gift Card Gallery will continue to offer numerous alternatives for purchasing goods our customers are interested in, such as gift cards for Visa, Target, eBay, Best Buy, and many more. There have been examples in the past of retailers choosing to leave the Giant Eagle Gift Card Gallery, only to return at a later point. We will continue to keep the lines of communication open, should that opportunity present itself with Amazon.

A Giant Eagle spokesperson confirmed that Amazon was behind the decision to discontinue its gift card sales in its stores.
